In 2018, Kristin co-founded the Montreal opera creation company Musique 3 Femmes with Suzanne Rigden and Jennifer Szeto, a company which seeks to bring the creative voices and artistic leadership of women to the forefront of opera. Acting as General Director since the company was formed, and Artistic Director since 2023, Kristin has been an instrumental part of Musique 3 Femmes' work for seven years. Since 2018, M3F has commissioned 12 new chamber operas written by female composers and librettists through the Mécénat Musica Prix 3 Femmes. It has made 1100 opera artist hires, shared projects and teachings with hundreds of post-secondary opera artist students, and reached 3000 audience members, with performances and presentations in 14 cities, eight Canadian provinces and three countries.
Mini-Opéras Santé
In June 2020, just a few months into the pandemic, Kristin joined Ensemble Caprice, Ensemble ArtChoral, Matthias Maute, Sophie Larivière, Dorothéa Ventura and Mécénat Musica in the launching of the Mini-Concerts Santé projet, which sends duos of professional instrumentalists and singers door-to-door to perform outdoors on sidewalks, alleys and parks in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, offering surprise 10-minute Mini-Concerts Santé and Mini-Operas Santé.
The concert series continues to thrive. Between 2020 and 2023, the initiative delivered 13 500 free Mini-Concerts Santé and Mini-Operas Santé door-to-door in disadvantaged neighborhoods to 100,000 children, teenagers, seniors, adults and families suffering from isolation, loneliness or psychological distress, on 1,600 streets in 390 regions, cities and neighborhoods. The project has resulted in 4,400 hires of professional instrumentalists and singers, and was awarded the Prix Opus 2020 Award for Musical event of the year.
The project has collected more than 1,300 testimonials from beneficiaries:
"That was a song my mother used to sing to me!"
“There's only music that can transform our daily lives in such wonderful ways!”
“ It allows you to meet people, to share the most precious thing in the world."
” I thank you from the bottom of my heart... a magical moment that moved me to tears."
” I've been in Quebec for 50 years & I've never seen anything like this in front of my house!"
